AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): At least 33 people were killed following simultaneous attacks by armed militants in northwestern Nigeria. Police stated that the assaults occurred on Wednesday in the Biyo area of Kebbi State.
Police spokesperson Bashir Usman said the attackers had entered the area from the neighboring Sokoto State, parts of which are reportedly under the influence of a group known as Lakurawa. According to him, preliminary investigations indicate that the gunmen entered the area with the intention of stealing livestock, and security forces have been deployed to restore stability.
The Lakurawa group operates in parts of northwestern Nigeria and is known for attacks on villages, kidnappings for ransom, and cattle rustling. The country’s northern region has in recent years, faced a complex security crisis, marked by the widespread involvement of militant factions and armed criminal gangs in kidnapping operations and organized violence.
Meanwhile, Nigeria has strengthened its security cooperation with the United States to counter armed groups. The country’s military recently announced the deployment of 100 American personnel to train Nigerian forces in combating militant organizations.
