Palestine Curriculum Developed, Approved for Muslim Schools in S. Africa

South Africa’s leading Muslim bodies have approved a dedicated Palestine curriculum for schools, an educational program set to be implemented nationwide in 2026.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Following months of consultations with parents, teachers, and Islamic scholars, the United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA), in cooperation with the education department of the Muslim Judicial Council of South Africa (MJC-SA), has endorsed the development and implementation of a new “Palestine” curriculum for middle and high school students.

Designed under the framework of the “Islamic Curriculum Initiative,” the program aims to provide a structured understanding of Palestine, covering its history, spiritual significance, and the realities of occupation, while grounding the content in Islamic values and an emphasis on practical ethical engagement.

Mawlana Ibrahim Moosa, a member of the Palestine Information Network and one of the contributors to the curriculum, said the initiative has been under discussion for nearly a decade. He noted that the program is scheduled for nationwide rollout in 2026, with teacher training sessions to be held in advance of its implementation.

Moosa added that discussions around developing such a curriculum, particularly within Muslim schools in South Africa, have been ongoing for about ten years. In 2018, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Palestine Information Network and the Association of Muslim Schools to develop the educational content, a process that has now reached its final stage.

The curriculum will provide teachers with a comprehensive set of ready-to-use educational resources, including free structured content, detailed lesson plans with interdisciplinary links, interactive activities, specialized terminology, references to the Quran and hadiths, presentation slides and multimedia materials, worksheets and assessment tools, as well as maps and visual aids.

To support effective implementation, a dedicated Palestine curriculum teachers’ workshop is scheduled to be held in South Africa’s Western Cape province on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
