AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran’s top military commander praised Russia’s strong and principled stance at the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency in opposition to Israel’s 12-day war on Iran in June.
Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, made the remarks during a meeting with Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev in Tehran on Thursday.
Mousavi stated that Iran has consistently shown it does not initiate wars and believes diplomacy and negotiation are the best paths to resolving conflicts.
He accused the enemy of using diplomacy as a façade for deception, launching a war against Iran while pretending to pursue peaceful dialogue.
Mousavi emphasized that Iran’s Armed Forces delivered a powerful and decisive response to both the United States and Israel.
On June 13, Israel launched a sudden and unprovoked attack on Iran, sparking a 12-day war that killed at least 1,064 people, including military officials, scientists, and civilians.
The United States also joined the conflict by bombing three Iranian nuclear facilities, an act condemned as a serious breach of international law.
In retaliation, Iran struck strategic targets in the occupied territories and the al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest U.S. military installation in West Asia.
By June 24, Iran’s counterattacks successfully halted the aggression from both Israel and the United States.
Mousavi also highlighted the potential for Iran and Russia to expand cooperation despite Western sanctions.
He noted that the two nations, as strategic allies, have deepened ties across multiple sectors in defiance of international pressure.
Russian Energy Minister Tsivilev echoed the sentiment, calling for enhanced economic and defense collaboration between Tehran and Moscow.
Tsivilev supported the proposal to expand joint commissions to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
