Mourning of Imam Hussein is our lifeline – Pakistani Shia scholar

The registration of FIRs against organizers of mourning processions and gatherings in Punjab is continuing like a campaign, which has drawn strong displeasure from the leader of the Shia community.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Mourning for the oppressed of Karbala is not against any particular sect or school of thought—it is our lifeline. All Shias and Sunnis together, in their own ways, commemorate and grieve for the grandson of the Prophet (PBUH).

On behalf of the leader of the Shia community in Pakistan, Allama Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, a delegation led by Allama Arif Hussain Wahidi, Vice President of the Shia Ulema Council of Pakistan, participated in the central mourning procession (including Alam, Zuljanah, and Tazia) from the central Imambargah Asna Ashariya in G-6/2 Islamabad. Other members of the delegation included Syed Javed Hussain Shah (President of the Council for the Federal Territory of Islamabad), Tasawwur Abbas Jarra (General Secretary), Maulana Syed Ali Bunyamin Naqvi, Maulana Mehmood Yasoubi (Vice President), Maulana Mehr Farhat Hussain (Secretary of Preaching), Maulana Raja Ashfaq Hussain, Turab Ali Balti (Organizer of Jafaria Youth for Federal Territories), and Sifat Hussain (Finance Secretary for the Federal Territories).

On the occasion, Allama Arif Hussain Wahidi, while speaking to the media, stated that the series of central Muharram processions has begun across the country. These processions express deep devotion to the Imam of Karbala. This mourning (Azadari) symbolizes love, unity among Muslims, and a stance against oppression. At present, imperialist and colonial powers—such as the U.S., Israel, and India—are united against the Muslim Ummah. Thousands of Palestinians have been martyred, and Hezbollah and Ansarullah have made sacrifices in this cause.

He strongly condemned Israel's aggression against Iran and praised Pakistan and Iran for crushing the arrogance of the aggressor countries. He saluted the armed forces, government, and people of Pakistan for defeating Indian arrogance and especially appreciated Pakistan's support for Iran. He declared that in the face of Trump and Zionist forces, they firmly stand with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei.

Allama Wahidi further emphasized that mourning for the oppressed of Karbala is not against any sect; rather, it is the lifeblood of our identity. Both Shias and Sunnis jointly express their sorrow for the Prophet’s grandson in their own ways. He affirmed that under the leadership and guidance of the ambassador of peace and advocate for Muslim unity, Allama Sajid Ali Naqvi, they are actively protecting mourning practices and are a peaceful nation—the true inheritors of this country.

He stressed that maintaining unity and harmony during Muharram is a top priority, but this should not be mistaken for weakness. "We can never give up our legitimate rights," he stated. He criticized government officials who place unnecessary obstacles in the path of mourners and urged them instead to provide facilities.

He strongly condemned the actions of the Sindh and Punjab governments in removing water stalls set up in Imam Hussain’s name during extreme heat, calling it a vile act, and demanded an immediate end to this Yazidi behavior.

He lamented the deteriorating situation in Punjab, where newspapers display positive advertisements, but the ground reality tells a different story. He made it clear to the Punjab government that they would not accept any restrictions on the remembrance of Imam Hussain. The arrest of organizers of gatherings and processions and the ongoing registration of FIRs appear to be part of a planned campaign, to which the leader of the Shia community has expressed severe dissatisfaction.

Calling it a blatant violation of basic rights and a disgraceful act, Allama Arif Wahidi declared unequivocally that "We will not accept any obstruction or ban on the mourning of the Master of Martyrs (Imam Hussain), even if it demands great sacrifices from us. We reserve the right to protest, the consequences of which the state may not be able to bear."
