AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): U.S. Senator Chris Murphy has taken a firm stand against the continuation of America’s military campaign against Iran, marking his latest public position on the issue.
In a newly released video, Murphy announced he is pursuing legislative action in the Senate to formally end the war. “As members of the Senate, we have the constitutional right and responsibility to decide on war powers when necessary. This proposed legislation makes clear that the president does not have the authority to wage war against Iran, and that military operations must be brought to an immediate end,” he stated
Regarding his rationale for opposing the war, Murphy highlighted growing concerns over its escalating costs and uncontrollable trajectory.
He pointed to rising fuel prices, the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and the emergence of new conflicts across the region. “Hundreds of Americans have been killed, and we are spending two billion dollars a day,” he said. “For what? The Iranian regime is not acting in America’s interest; it’s actually worse than before the war began. We haven’t succeeded in stopping their nuclear program, missile development, or drone capabilities. All of this has resulted in massive waste of American resources and placed an enormous financial burden on taxpayers and U.S. businesses.”
Murphy acknowledged the political challenges ahead, admitting, “I don’t know if I’ll succeed in passing this law, I suspect nearly all Republicans will oppose it. But we must have a debate in the Senate about war with Iran. We must pass a law opposing it. And I’m grateful that several of my colleagues have already joined me in advancing this effort.”
