Pakistan Launches Attacks on Afghanistan’s Kunar Province; Two Civilians Killed, Eight Wounded

The Intelligence and Culture Directorate of the Taliban in Afghanistan’s Kunar Province reported that two civilians were killed and eight others injured in recent rocket and artillery strikes by Pakistani forces over the past 24 hours.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Intelligence and Culture Directorate of the Taliban in Afghanistan’s Kunar Province announced that Pakistani military forces launched attacks using rockets, artillery, and mortar fire against various areas of the province within the last 24 hours.

According to the statement issued by the Directorate, at least two civilians were killed and eight others were wounded as a result of the strikes. One of the fatalities occurred in Nari District, while the other was killed in Sar-e-Khan District. Among the injured, six were reported in Nari and two in Sar-e-Khan. Some reports, however, cite seven injured individuals.

The Taliban stated that the attacks primarily targeted residential areas in Nari, Sar-e-Khan, and Munaori districts, accusing Pakistan of deliberately targeting non-combatants.

The Kunar Intelligence and Culture Directorate added that in response to the attacks, Taliban forces destroyed a Pakistani border outpost in Sar-e-Khan and killed one Pakistani soldier.

This incident is part of the ongoing border tensions between the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan and Pakistan, which have persisted even after the temporary Eid al-Fitr ceasefire. Pakistan has so far not issued any official statement regarding this specific event and typically denies such allegations, characterizing them as operations against terrorist groups.

This comes amid previous warnings from the United Nations and independent sources about the deaths of dozens of Afghan civilians in cross-border clashes. Tensions have escalated in recent months due to reciprocal rocket, drone, and artillery attacks, raising serious concerns over the potential for a broader escalation of conflict.
