AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Embassy of Iran in London responded to the use of the term “the Gulf” instead of “the Persian Gulf” in recent official documents and statements by the UK government.
The embassy further stated, “First, every geographical location has a name, and the name of the gulf located in the south of Iran is the Persian Gulf. Repeat this to yourselves every day so that you do not forget.”
The embassy continued, “Second, if you possess courage and integrity, it would be better to condemn the regimes of the United States and Israel rather than condemning Iran, for they initiated the war, and now its consequences have engulfed everyone. Iran is acting solely in legitimate self-defense.”
The reaction from the embassy came after the UK Prime Minister's Office, in a statement on March 23, wrote, “We condemn in the strongest terms the recent Iranian attacks on unarmed commercial vessels in the Gulf, attacks on civilian infrastructure including oil and gas facilities, and the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian forces.”
The office also wrote, “We express our deep concern about the escalation of the conflict. We call on Iran to immediately cease its threats, mine-laying, drone and missile attacks, and other efforts to block the Strait to commercial shipping, and to comply and cooperate with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817. Freedom of navigation, including under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, is a fundamental principle of international law.”
It is worth noting that European countries have adopted a policy of silence, disregarding the illegal actions of the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran, which contravene international norms. Although these countries are not officially and directly aligned with the United States, their silence in the face of these actions constitutes a form of support for these two regimes.
