AhlulBayt News Agency: A majority of countries attending a special session of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (O.P.C.W.) have strongly condemned recent Israeli airstrikes on Iranian chemical and industrial facilities, labeling them a serious breach of international law.
The emergency meeting, held Tuesday in The Hague at Iran's request, was convened to address attacks carried out during the 12-day conflict initiated by Israel. The gathering aimed to assess the legality and consequences of strikes on civilian and dual-use infrastructure in Iran.
According to IRNA, Iran’s Ambassador to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative to the O.P.C.W., Hadi Farajvand, delivered a detailed statement denouncing what he called deliberate and systematic acts of aggression targeting Iranian civilians—among them women, children, and scientific personnel—as well as petrochemical complexes and research institutions.
Farajvand cautioned that such attacks not only violate international humanitarian law but also present grave environmental hazards, including the release of toxic substances, destruction of key infrastructure, and long-term threats to human health and ecological security.
He further noted that Israel’s actions were consistent with its prior attacks on chemical facilities in Syria and Lebanon, emphasizing that Israel is not a signatory to international treaties banning weapons of mass destruction.
To address the crisis, Iran proposed the formation of a dedicated working group within the O.P.C.W. to create binding frameworks that would prohibit military attacks on chemical infrastructure in times of conflict.
