The Economist: Trump's Blockade of the Strait of Hormuz Is a Dangerous Gamble

The Economist, in a report, described Donald Trump's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as a "dangerous gamble" that could plunge the world into an unprecedented energy crisis.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Economist, in a report referring to the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, stated that this action both further damages international law and could lead to a new conflict.

The publication added that when the United States and Israel launched their war against Iran on February 28, it was widely predicted that Iran would disrupt shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. But few predicted that less than two months later, Donald Trump would himself impose a blockade targeting traffic to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas.

The Economist continued in its report, "This blockade has been in effect since April 13. Trump hopes that economic strangulation will force Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz—something bombing has failed to achieve. This is a dangerous gamble that could exacerbate the global energy crisis and lead to the escalation of a new war."
