UK: Economic Consequences of the War Against Iran Will Outlast the Conflict Itself

The British Prime Minister warned that the economic consequences of the war against Iran for the country's economy and people's livelihoods will persist even after tensions subside.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The British Prime Minister warned that the economic pressures resulting from this war will continue to impact the country's economy and people's livelihoods even after tensions subside.

Keir Starmer, speaking at a special session of the House of Commons, stated that the ceasefire between the United States, Israel, and Iran, while welcome, is very fragile, and serious efforts are needed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and reduce tensions until a lasting ceasefire is achieved.

Starmer also called for Lebanon to be included in the ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States, emphasizing that Israel's attacks are unjustified. According to him, these attacks have had devastating humanitarian consequences and are driving Lebanon toward a deep crisis; therefore, these bombings must cease immediately. Stressing the primacy of diplomacy, he welcomed the recent talks.

The British Prime Minister added, "From the beginning of the conflict, my decision-making has always been based on national interest; that is why we did not enter the war, and we still will not. Our efforts to restore freedom of navigation in the Middle East are precisely in line with Britain's national interest."

He continued that this path is not simple and will take time. Starmer added that he has held numerous meetings with British companies active in the energy, shipping, insurance, and finance sectors, and these companies have emphasized that they will not resume passage through the strait until they are assured of the route's safety. For this reason, the government is working around the clock on a reliable plan to reopen this route.

Meanwhile, the United States, having failed to advance its declared objectives on the battlefield and unable to exert political pressure, has once again resorted to threats regarding the Strait of Hormuz. On the other hand, the Zionist regime, despite the ceasefire, has carried out extensive attacks against Lebanon.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, by participating in the Islamabad negotiations, has demonstrated its will to achieve lasting peace, but due to Washington's excessive demands, this process has reached an impasse.

Iran has consistently emphasized that it is ready to reach a sustainable and reliable agreement that guarantees the country's interests and prevents future abuses.
