Democrats to Bring War Powers Resolution to a Vote Against U.S. Action in Iran

Chuck Schumer announced that Democrats will bring a War Powers Resolution to a vote this week to halt U.S. military involvement in Iran and return the power to authorize war to Congress.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Chuck Schumer, on the Senate floor, sharply criticized Donald Trump, stating that the president had led the United States into war without consulting lawmakers or obtaining authorization for the use of military force.

He said, "Trump took America to war. He did it without consulting Congress. He did it without authorization for the use of military force. He did it without a plan and without a strategy."

Schumer, citing the instability in the Strait of Hormuz, rising gasoline prices, and Iran's continued resistance, declared that conditions have worsened since the war began on February 28.

The senior Democratic senator called the administration's management of the war an "Epic Fail Operation" and said that Republicans who support the president share responsibility for such an outcome.

Schumer stated, "Republicans have supported Donald Trump, and they are just as responsible as Trump for the Epic Fail Operation. That is why this week, Democrats will again hold a vote on the War Powers Resolution to end hostilities in Iran and return the power to authorize war to Congress, where that authority has always belonged."

He added, "This chamber is not a spectator. Congress must do its job and ensure that no president can drag this country into war alone and without consequence. Now is the time to end the Epic Fail Operation."

It is worth noting that under the U.S. Constitution, only Congress has the power to declare war.
