Shanghai Cooperation Organization Ready to Mediate Between Taliban and Pakistan

The Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) announced that the organization is prepared to play a mediating role in reducing tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan, should both sides demonstrate political will, calling such an effort vital for stability in Afghanistan and regional security.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev, referring to the escalating tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan, stated that the organization stands ready to facilitate a mediation process, provided both parties show genuine political commitment to resolving their differences.

He emphasized that existing mechanisms within the SCO could be utilized to help de-escalate tensions and create conditions conducive to dialogue, contingent upon both sides’ serious intent to settle their disputes.

Yermekbayev stressed that the SCO is closely monitoring developments in Taliban-Pakistan relations and underscored stability in Afghanistan and its surrounding regions as a key factor for regional security.

He added that SCO member states, upon request, can leverage their diplomatic and political capacities to support the revival of dialogue between Kabul and Islamabad.
