Rural Clashes in India’s Gariaband Leave Several Injured; Muslim Homes Damaged

Clashes in Dotkaya village in India’s Gariaband district left several people, including police officers, injured, with reports of Muslim homes being burned or damaged. Authorities say investigations are ongoing.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Several people, including police personnel, were injured following clashes in Dotkaya village in India’s Gariaband district, amid reports that homes belonging to Muslim residents were damaged or set on fire.

According to police, the unrest began after three men entered the village, with tensions escalating thereafter. Some local residents alleged that the men attacked others with rods and stones, resulting in at least six injuries.

Muslim residents of the village, however, said the scale of the incident was broader than described in the official account. They reported that three homes belonging to Muslim families were set ablaze, forcing families to flee in fear.

Reports indicate that several houses and vehicles were damaged during the violence. The homes of individuals identified as Arif, Salim, and Imran were among the properties reportedly destroyed by fire.

Police said that after officers were deployed to the scene, some individuals threw stones at security personnel, further intensifying the situation. Additional units were subsequently dispatched to restore order.

Vedurat Sriramur, the district police chief, said arrests had been made in connection with the violence. “Arif, Salim, and Imran have been detained for questioning,” he said, adding that multiple cases had been registered and investigations were continuing.

Meanwhile, members of the Muslim community and some local residents expressed concern over the authorities’ handling of the incident. Questioning the arrests, they alleged that the response appeared one-sided and said the broader Muslim community was facing both anxiety and financial losses as a result of the unrest.
