AhlulBayt News Agency: A senior cleric underlined that Islam and the Holy Quran attach great importance to protecting the environment, saying the environment is a divine trust and its destruction is forbidden by Islamic law.
In a message to the nationwide conference on “Environmental Risks and National Security of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Grand Ayatollah Hossein Nouri Hamedani emphasized that protecting the environment is a divine trust and a religious obligation.
He considered neglect and destruction of natural resources to be a violation of human rights and a serious threat to national security, and emphasized the need for comprehensive management, efficient governance, and public participation in protecting the environment.
God Almighty has provided a clean and healthy living environment for humans on the path of material and spiritual growth, perfection, and happiness, and has placed the natural and human environment at the disposal of humanity as a trust, the source of emulation stated.
Its protection, restoration, and improvement are examples of gratitude for blessings and preservation of trust, and are a religious obligation and a shared responsibility of all members of human society, he said.
Environmental protection is a divinely mandated duty and includes the preservation, restoration and improvement of seas, lakes, rivers, reservoirs, dams, wetlands, underground aquifers, forests, soil, pastures and air, biodiversity, and the imposition of legal restrictions on the exploitation of these resources in proportion to their capacity, and ability to regenerate based on sustainability criteria and indicators, comprehensive management, protection of genetic resources and their promotion to the level of technical and expert indicators in various environmental fields, according to the senior cleric.
The concern of the Holy Quran, Hadiths, and jurisprudence of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) for preserving the environment and reminding us of the security risks of its destruction is quite clear, he went on to say.
Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the organizers of the conference and wished the participants and organizers success in achieving the goals of the conference.
