AhlulBayt News Agency: Hamas has declared its commitment to a war of attrition in response to Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza, describing the offensive as a political failure for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In a statement released on Sunday, Hamas stated that its resistance forces are employing new field tactics to counter the genocide against civilians, aiming to surprise Israeli forces daily.
The Palestinian group further asserted that Israel’s intensified military operations are increasing its losses and pushing its captives into uncertainty.
The statement follows an ambush by Palestinian resistance fighters in Khan Younis, where several Israeli occupation forces were killed and injured amid escalating aggression in Gaza.
According to Palestine’s Safa news agency, Hebrew-language reports indicate that a special Israeli military unit was attacked east of Khan Younis, resulting in five deaths and multiple injuries after a bomb explosion.
The total number of Israeli troops killed since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, has reached nearly 900, according to figures released by the Israeli army.
Observers note that Hamas remains strong and steadfast 20 months into Israel’s air and ground offensive in Gaza.
Palestinian military analyst Rami Abu Zubaydah stated that Hamas is shifting from a defensive stance to tactical attack operations against Israeli forces.
Israel has announced plans to further expand its military campaign across Gaza, with Netanyahu proposing the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to southern Gaza.
The Israeli army has already intensified its ground operations, aiming to seize a significant portion of Palestinian territory.
In its Sunday statement, Hamas dismissed Netanyahu’s claims of an “absolute victory,” calling them an illusion meant to mislead the Israeli public.
“The endless aggression Netanyahu envisioned has become a daily burden, marking his political and personal downfall as the illusion of a swift resolution collapses,” Hamas stated.
Hamas further emphasized that the only viable solution is a comprehensive deal, which Netanyahu continues to reject.
According to Gaza health officials, nearly 54,880 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in Israeli attacks.
Israel’s military campaign has targeted civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and schools, in blatant violation of international law.
Military experts argue that Israel has failed to achieve its stated objectives in the war.
In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former war minister Yoav Gallant, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its actions against civilians in Gaza.
