Civil Defense in southern Gaza announces fuel shortage and suspension of most vehicles

The Civil Defense in Gaza announced severe fuel shortages, suspending most emergency vehicles, thus crippling humanitarian response. Israel’s renewed aggression and tightened blockade exacerbated the crisis, resulting in 170,000 casualties since October 2023. Urgent global intervention is required to address the worsening humanitarian toll.

AhlulBayt News Agency: On Monday evening, the Civil Defense in Gaza announced a critical shortage of fuel, resulting in the suspension of eight out of twelve firefighting, rescue, and ambulance vehicles in the southern governorates of the Gaza Strip. This emergency is expected to severely hinder humanitarian interventions and responses to citizens’ distress calls, leaving only four operational vehicles to serve hundreds of thousands of civilians and displaced persons in shelter centers.

The Civil Defense strongly condemned the Israeli occupation, holding it fully responsible for exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza through its ongoing war and unrelenting blockade. The organization has urgently appealed to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and other international bodies to ensure the immediate opening of Gaza’s crossings for fuel and essential supplies, enabling humanitarian agencies to continue their lifesaving work.

The crisis worsened after the Israeli occupation renewed its aggression on March 18, 2025, following a brief two-month ceasefire that began in January. Throughout the truce period, Israel systematically violated the agreement, escalating the blockade and resuming intensive strikes on Gaza.

Since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces, with direct backing from the United States and European nations, have perpetrated acts of genocide in Gaza. The humanitarian toll has been devastating, with approximately 170,000 Palestinians killed or wounded—most of them women and children—and over 14,000 reported missing.
