AhlulBayt News Agency: The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has rejected Israel’s claim that its military campaign in Gaza is targeting Hamas fighters, revealing that the overwhelming majority—94 percent—of the victims of Israeli attacks are civilians.
According to the rights organization, Israeli forces killed 345 Palestinians and injured 770 others within just one week (April 20-26). Disturbingly, more than half of those killed were children, while 16 percent were women and 8 percent were elderly. Even most of the adult males killed held civilian jobs or were engaged in professions unrelated to any militant activities.
The group condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for denying civilian targeting while publicly issuing false statements that downplay the extensive civilian death toll. Netanyahu’s claims were described as deliberate attempts to mislead global public opinion and conceal ongoing crimes against Palestinians.
The rights monitor also criticized the international community’s silence on the atrocities in Gaza, calling it a grave moral failure and a violation of the legal obligations of states and institutions tasked with upholding justice.
Israel began its genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, imposing a complete siege on the strip. Although a ceasefire agreement was reached with Hamas in January 2024, Israel cut off food and humanitarian aid to Gaza’s 2.3 million residents in early March and resumed its bombing campaign. Since October 2023, Israeli actions have resulted in the deaths of 52,314 Palestinians and injuries to 117,792 others, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
