Iranian Cleric to Pope Leo XIV: Trump is ‘Pharaoh of Era’

Senior Iranian cleric Ayatollah Mahmoud Rajabi has penned a letter to Pope Leo XIV commending the Pontiff's condemnation of civilian casualties while issuing a stark warning regarding US President Donald Trump, whom he described as the "Pharaoh of the era."

AhlulBayt News Agency: Senior Iranian cleric Ayatollah Mahmoud Rajabi has penned a letter to Pope Leo XIV commending the Pontiff's condemnation of civilian casualties while issuing a stark warning regarding US President Donald Trump, whom he described as the "Pharaoh of the era."

In the letter, Ayatollah Rajabi, a member of Iran's Assembly of Experts and head of the Imam Khomeini Educational and Research Institute, thanked the Pope for "valuable remarks in condemning the killing of innocent children, women, and defenseless men”. The cleric stated that such a stance aligns with the divine teachings of Prophet Jesus (PBUH).

The correspondence comes amid heightened scrutiny over Trump's social media activity and his administration's foreign policy. Ayatollah Rajabi strongly condemned what he termed "insults by the criminal Trump" toward the leader of the world's Christians. He cautioned that if followers of Abrahamic faiths fail to stand against the "arrogance and despotism of this modern-day Pharaoh," the global community should brace for "greater insults and dangers."

In a message echoing Iran's official stance on interfaith harmony, Ayatollah Rajabi highlighted the historical coexistence of Muslims and Christians in Iran. "We have lived peacefully and empathetically alongside many dear Christians for many years," the letter reads.

The Ayatollah also referenced the late Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei's tradition of visiting the families of Christian martyrs during Christmas, framing it as evidence of amicable relations. The letter further proposed that "Abrahamic religions, especially Christian and Muslim scholars," can take "effective scientific and practical steps" toward realizing their common goal of global peace.

The full text of the letter, released by Hawzah News, concludes with an invocation for the "final savior," noting that Prophet Jesus will accompany him in spreading justice worldwide.
