AhlulBayt News Agency: President Masoud Pezeshkian has offered condolences for the martyrdom of Kamal Kharrazi, former head of the Strategic Council for Foreign Relations and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, and described him as a prominent, dedicated, and influential figure in diplomacy.
Martyr Kharrazi was one of the prominent, dedicated, and influential figures in the country’s diplomacy, who for many years devoted his noble life to critical positions such as Iran’s foreign minister, and ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, with sincerity, insight, and deep commitment to the ideals of the Islamic Revolution, in the path of defending national interests and articulating the principled positions of Iran on the international arena, the message reads.
I pay tribute to the lofty spirit of this exalted martyr and his devoted, supportive wife who was martyred alongside him in this criminal act, Pezeshkian added.
Kharrazi, who was previously injured in a US-Israeli airstrike, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced martyred. Kharrazi was targeted in a deliberate attack during the US-Israeli military aggression on Iran.
On April 1, during bombings in Tehran, Kharrazi’s residence was struck by an enemy aircraft, which resulted in the martyrdom of his wife.
The US and the Israeli regime launched a large-scale unprovoked military campaign against Iran following the assassination of then Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians, on February 28.
In retaliation, Iranian Armed Forces launched attacks on American and Israeli positions in the region, demonstrating their capability to strike back effectively. Despite initial expectations by the attackers of a swift victory, the Iranian response proved significantly more potent, inflicting heavy damage on US and Israeli military resources while rallying the nation’s unity and resistance.
