Iranian scholar: 'Trump is no madman, but a herald of a new world order'

ABNA24 - In a thought-provoking analysis, a senior Iranian scholar has argued that US President Donald Trump is not acting erratically but rather embodies the emergence of a new global order—one rooted in post-modern philosophy, the rejection of traditional ethics, and the raw assertion of power.

Hojatoleslam Mohammad Taghi Sobhani, Director of the Center for Deepening Religious Faith at the Islamic Propagation Office of the Qom Seminary, made the remarks in a commentary titled "Trump is not a madman; he is the prophet of the new world order."

"These days, people speak of Trump's madness or define the 'Trumpian man' as a talking animal," Sobhani wrote. "They seem to forget that Aristotle's definition of man as a 'rational animal' ended long ago in the modern West. It is now Homo Faber—man the toolmaker and creature of the system of domination—that has come to dominate the world."

The scholar noted that the Western world succeeded in transforming this interpretation of modernity into an unrivaled global order following World War II, underpinned by the hegemony of American pragmatist culture. That order, he explained, rested on the authority of international institutions on one hand and scientific-technological dominance on the other.

"For a time, this new order imposed its legitimacy on others through humanistic ethics, human rights, democracy, and collective agreements," Sobhani observed. "But it has now lost its effectiveness for the project's own architects. The order that ruled the world for less than a century no longer secures the interests of its founders in practical terms."

He identified the primary theoretical driver of this shift as the failure of modernity's philosophical, ethical, scientific, and theological foundations.

"The world stands on the brink of a new order," he wrote. "The Nietzschean man—who has moved beyond God and morality and recognizes 'the will to power' as the only acceptable value—has arrived and seeks to establish its elements in social and civilizational life."

Sobhani described the emerging global era as one built on post-modern philosophy, characterized by anti-rationalism, moral evasion, and the official sanctioning of force and deceit. He stressed that the recent upheavals and the rise of figures like Trump are neither accidental nor exceptional, but rather manifestations of this nascent order—one that will continue to produce similar figures in succession.

Among the consequences of this new order, the scholar noted, are global anomie, the establishment of order through disorder, and the emergence of hidden powers amid fragmentation and plurality.

"We must not forget that it is during these transitional periods that extraordinary events take place," Sobhani cautioned. "New heroes emerge onto the stage, victims are led to the slaughterhouse, and a new mold of the world takes shape."
