AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A group of Hindu men allegedly attempted to desecrate a Sufi shrine in the ITO Yamuna Ghat area of New Delhi, an incident that has triggered widespread reactions following the circulation of video footage on social media.
In the video, a man identified as Akash Pandit is seen chanting “Jai Shri Ram” while challenging critics, saying, “Post my video on Twitter and file as many cases against me as you want.”
The footage shows damage being inflicted on the shrine, once again heightening sensitivities surrounding religious sites in the area.
The incident recalls a similar event on January 15, when Pandit and his associates, who identified themselves as members of the “Gau Raksha Dal,” used an axe to damage part of the same shrine. At the time, they claimed the shrine had been built illegally near a temple and should be “liberated.”
Authorities have so far provided no official clarification on whether the shrine is legal or illegal, leaving its legal status unclear. Local residents and community leaders, condemning the repeated actions, have called for decisive police intervention to prevent sectarian tensions.
As of the time of this report, Delhi Police have not issued an official statement regarding the February 2 incident or the filing of any formal complaint against those involved. Meanwhile, the continued circulation of the videos has intensified calls for immediate intervention to preserve calm in the sensitive Yamuna Ghat area.
