AhlulBayt News Agency: Thousands of Greeks marched to the Israeli embassy in Athens to protest Israel’s war on Gaza, demanding an immediate ceasefire and increased international isolation of Israel.
A diverse section of Greek society—including workers, professionals, artisans, and members of the Greek Communist Party (KKE)—participated in the march.
Holding Palestinian flags, protesters chanted in support of Palestine, condemning Israeli airstrikes and the continued blockade of the Gaza Strip.
The protest was organized by the All Workers Militant Front (PAME), one of Greece’s largest trade union confederations affiliated with the KKE, in response to the intensified Israeli attacks on Gaza.
On Thursday, leading British mosques and Muslim organizations sent a letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, denouncing the UK government’s failure to respond to Israeli atrocities and urging a halt to arms sales to Israel.
The letter criticized the UK for not adopting a firm stance against policies amounting to collective punishment and ethnic cleansing in Gaza.
It also condemned Britain’s inaction in preventing famine and mass civilian suffering, warning that Israel is using starvation as a weapon against defenseless Palestinians.
Signed by 44 institutions, including East London Mosque, Birmingham Central Mosque, and Finsbury Park Mosque, the letter emphasized that continued UK support for Israel undermines its commitment to international law and human rights.
In addition to demanding an end to arms sales, the letter called for an immediate ceasefire, the lifting of the Gaza blockade, and formal recognition of Palestinian statehood.
Meanwhile, former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin urged Western nations to economically and strategically isolate Israel to prevent ethnic cleansing in Gaza.
Speaking on France Info radio, de Villepin warned that Israel is preparing for mass deportation of Gaza’s population.
He called on European leaders to suspend their trade agreements with Israel, impose an arms embargo, and collectively refer Israeli officials to the International Criminal Court.
He stressed that Western leaders must go beyond statements and take direct action to confront Israeli policies.
Israel launched its military campaign on Gaza on October 7, 2023, killing at least 53,762 Palestinians.
In January, Israel agreed to a temporary ceasefire after failing to achieve its objectives, including eliminating Palestinian resistance and securing the release of Israeli captives.
The truce, which lasted 42 days and was repeatedly violated, ended on March 1, and Israel has since refused to negotiate the second phase of the agreement.
