AhlulBayt News Agency: In yet another blatant display of state-backed discrimination, the Indian government has demolished over 7,000 homes, predominantly belonging to Muslims in Gujarat’s Danilimda area under the guise of removing "illegal Bangladeshi settlers."
Families who have lived on this land for decades were given little to no notice before bulldozers rolled in, backed by thousands of police officers. Meanwhile, nearby Hindu-owned homes on the same so-called “government land” were left untouched, exposing the communal bias behind this so-called “anti-encroachment” drive.
About two weeks ago, the campaign to remove so-called Bangladeshi people from the Siyasat Nagar area near Chandola Talab began, and it has now spread throughout the region. During this time, people were seen struggling to save their homes under heavy police security.
This demolition spree follows the forced evacuation of 2,000 homes in the same region just weeks earlier, in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack in Kashmir. Instead of pursuing justice through law, the Indian state continues to wield bulldozers as weapons against its Muslim citizens, punishing entire communities for crimes they did not commit.
These actions are not about urban planning or illegal settlement; they are part of a growing trend of institutionalised Islamophobia, where being Muslim in India is increasingly treated as a crime in itself.
One Indian Muslim, whose home was demolished in this campaign, spoke to BBC Gujarati, saying, "Yesterday, there was peace here, today it's a pile of rubble. Look at what has happened? My heart is broken." Saying this, he began crying uncontrollably.
Bismillah Biwi, a diabetic and blood pressure patient, who lives alone and earns a living selling papad and potatoes, said, "I don't know how I will survive now. I have diabetes, I have blood pressure, with all of this, I don't know where I will go."
According to official information, the demolition drive was carried out over more than 2.5 lakh square meters of land in the Chandola Talab area.
Officials from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation told news agency ANI that more than 3,000 police personnel were deployed for security during the demolition process, and a large number of bulldozers were brought in.
