AhlulBayt News Agency: At the Tehran Dialogue Forum 2025, President Masoud Pezeshkian underscored the need to establish a joint financial institution within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to enhance collaboration among member states. He emphasized that such a mechanism would serve as a crucial platform for advancing joint programs and fostering meaningful political, economic, cultural, and scientific interactions.
During his meeting on Sunday with SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming, President Pezeshkian described China’s rotational presidency as a valuable opportunity to implement strategic decisions that align with the organization’s core objectives. He stressed the importance of transitioning the SCO from a largely ceremonial entity to a more operational and impactful institution.
Highlighting the significance of expanding SCO membership, Pezeshkian noted that broadening participation would strengthen the organization’s influence and serve as a counterbalance to unilateral policies pursued by the United States.
Zhang Ming, in turn, welcomed Iran’s full membership in the SCO, describing it as a milestone that has been positively received by all member states. He praised Iran’s active engagement and its constructive proposals since joining the organization.
The secretary-general further outlined plans to enhance the SCO’s efficiency, emphasizing that the successful execution of cooperation agreements requires well-structured operational programs. He noted that efforts are underway to modernize the organization’s structures, and regular, productive interactions have been established between the SCO and Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate meaningful progress.
