Muslim residents in Belagavi demand swift action after burned Quran and Hadiths discovered

The reported desecration of Islamic texts in Belagavi sparked protests demanding justice. Demonstrators urged authorities to apprehend those responsible. Police are investigating the incident following heightened tensions in the area.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Hundreds of Muslims took to the streets of Belagavi on Monday evening to protest the reported desecration of Islamic scriptures at a mosque under construction in Santibastwad village.

Demonstrators called for swift action against those responsible for burning copies of the Quran and Hadiths. The protest began after worshippers discovered the texts missing during morning prayers.

A search led to the charred remains of the Quran and two Hadith books in a nearby field, briefly intensifying tensions in the area, according to Deccan Herald.

Residents from both Santibastwad and Belagavi city joined the march, chanting religious slogans and proceeding to the deputy commissioner’s office to demand immediate arrests.

Local police initially struggled to calm the demonstrators, who continued protesting for approximately two hours before dispersing. Authorities pledged to apprehend the culprits within three days.

Yusuf Mujawar, a resident of Santibastwad, noted that the mosque’s CCTV system had been removed for repairs just a day earlier. He speculated that the perpetrators were likely aware of this absence of surveillance.

He urged officials to take decisive action and criticized local ministers for failing to visit the site, claiming political neglect of the Muslim community.

Law enforcement authorities are currently investigating the incident.
