French authorities investigate Islamophobic vandalism in Orléans

An investigation has been launched into allegations of "incitement to hatred based on religion," following the appearance of Islamophobic and far-right stickers in Orléans.

AhlulBayt News Agency: An investigation has been launched into allegations of "incitement to hatred based on religion," following the appearance of Islamophobic and far-right stickers in Orléans.

Emmanuelle Bochenek-Puren, the public prosecutor in Orléans, issued a statement on Thursday afternoon, confirming the inquiry. The case was first reported by AFP and is currently being overseen by judicial police.

The stickers, which were found in central Orléans and on the University of Orléans campus, contained messages hostile to Islam and left-wing ideologies. Authorities noted that the materials also featured imagery and references associated with neo-Nazi and far-right groups.

Multiple organizations have already announced plans to pursue legal action in response to the incident. On Thursday morning, both the Loiret branch of the League Against Racism and Antisemitism (Licra) and the University of Orléans declared their intent to file formal complaints against the perpetrators.

Orléans City Hall issued a statement on Wednesday, confirming that it would review footage from public surveillance cameras to identify those responsible for distributing the stickers.

Reports suggest that the symbols and slogans on the stickers were directly linked to Nazi ideology and identitarian movements. Investigators believe the stickers were purchased from an online shop, which has since been taken offline.

Regional outlet Actu.fr reported that the now-defunct online store was allegedly operated by a man living in the Eure department of Normandy. The individual, who had registered the business last year, was convicted on Tuesday by Évreux court for public incitement to hatred.
