AhlulBayt News Agency: A man has been formally charged in Kosovo for desecrating the Holy Quran several months ago. Kosovo’s Special Prosecution filed an indictment on Tuesday, accusing him of inciting division within society.
In a statement to the media, the prosecution identified the suspect only by the initials I.P. Officials stated that he tore pages from the Quran in early March this year near the “Saraçhane” tekke in the southern city of Prizren.
The prosecution noted that investigations revealed I.P. had scattered torn pages of the Quran on the ground, causing outrage among the Islamic community and threatening coexistence between religious groups.
The suspect has been formally charged under Article 141, paragraph 1 of Kosovo’s Criminal Code for inciting division and intolerance.
According to Kosovo’s Penal Code, this offense is punishable by a fine and imprisonment for up to five years.
However, prosecutors have requested that the court order mandatory psychiatric treatment for the suspect while at liberty.
They argued that his ability to judge and control his actions at the time of the offense was significantly impaired, making psychiatric intervention necessary.
