Global powers urge restraint as India, Pakistan face regional crisis

Pakistan has accused India of planning a retaliatory strike after the Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 civilians. Rising tensions, including cross-border incidents, have escalated fears of conflict between the nuclear-armed neighbors. Global powers call for restraint to avert regional instability.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Pakistan has accused India of planning an imminent military strike as retaliation for the deadly April 22 attack in Pahalgam, where 26 civilians lost their lives. Islamabad has warned that any act of aggression will prompt a decisive response, escalating fears of a major regional crisis between the two nuclear-armed nations.

The tensions have reached a boiling point since the Pahalgam attack, marked as one of the deadliest incidents in Indian-administered Kashmir in years. Both nations have since traded harsh rhetoric, expelled diplomats, closed border crossings, and reported cross-border skirmishes and drone incidents, further destabilizing the situation.

Pakistan’s Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, claimed on Wednesday that Pakistan has credible intelligence indicating India’s intention to launch a military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours, using the Pahalgam attack as a pretext. He emphasized that Pakistan is ready to respond decisively and held India responsible for any consequences that may destabilize the region.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given military and security chiefs "complete operational freedom" to respond to the Pahalgam incident. Both global powers, including the United States and China, have called for restraint to avoid broader escalation.

The ongoing confrontation stems from the decades-long conflict over Kashmir, a region that has seen continuous violence and instability. Analysts warn that this latest flare-up could either push both sides toward renewed hostilities or prompt international diplomacy to defuse tensions.
