“There is an opportunity for a new international alliance in the region,” the chief of staff of the Israeli military, Gadi Eisenkot, told the paper. “We are ready to exchange experiences with moderate Arab countries and exchange intelligence to confront Iran.”
A number of Arab monarchies in the Persian Gulf have been working to normalize ties with the Israelis in recent months, including Bahrain’s ruling Al-Khalifa clan.
Experts attribute the move to a shared hostility towards Iran and its recent success in fighting back terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq.
According to Eisenkot, the Saudis and the Israelis, who he said never fought each other, are in full agreement when it comes to Iran.
When asked about the prospects of an attack on Lebanon’s Hezbollah, Eisenkot said that he did not “see a high chance” of another conflict in the near future.
