AhlulBayt News Agency: The provincial police command in Najaf, Iraq, hosted a large security meeting Saturday morning to discuss security for this year’s Arbaeen procession.

Senior military officials and representatives of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) were present to review mechanisms for ensuring the security of pilgrims and coordinating service plans on the Arbaeen routes.

Qais al-Mohammadawy, deputy commander of the Joint Operations Headquarters and head of the Supreme Committee for the Supervision of Million-Strong Pilgrimages, was also present to be closely informed of the latest measures, arrangements, and preparations necessary to host and welcome the pilgrims of Arbaeen.

The meeting was also attended by Yasser al-Issawi, Deputy for Operations of the PMU General Staff, Major General Ali al-Hamdani, commander of the Central Euphrates Operations, Major General Ahmed al-Maksousi, commander of Wasit Operations, Major General Muhammad Jaber al-Fatlawi, commander of the Najaf Ashraf Police, and a group of police commanders from related provinces.

The attendees assessed the security measures and services in progress and examined ways to strengthen coordination between different units and security agencies.

The aim of these coordinations is to ensure the smooth movement of pilgrims, create a safe environment, and ultimately hold the grand Arbaeen march successfully.

Arbaeen is a religious event observed by Shia Muslims on the fortieth day after the Day of Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Shia imam.

It is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, with millions of Shia Muslims, as well as many Sunnis and followers of other religions, walking to Karbala from various cities in Iraq and neighboring countries. This year, the day of Arbaeen will fall on August 4.
