Efforts to Delay Netanyahu's Corruption Trial with the Aim of Running in October Elections

A journalist based in Ramallah reported that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's lawyers are once again attempting to delay the judicial proceedings under the pretext of security reasons, with the primary goal of enabling Netanyahu to run in the upcoming October parliamentary elections.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Netanyahu's lawyers—the war criminal accused in the occupied territories of three cases involving bribery, fraud, and breach of trust—have once again requested a postponement in the judicial proceedings of the prime minister's corruption cases, citing security and diplomatic considerations. The primary goal is to allow Netanyahu to run in the upcoming October elections. This tactic has become a recurring pattern in this trial.

These cases, which include multiple corruption charges against Netanyahu, have not yet resulted in a final verdict, a situation that carries significant political consequences. If no verdict is issued or the charges are not proven, Netanyahu can run as a candidate in the upcoming October elections and, by leading the ruling Likud party, once again become prime minister of this regime.

According to a report by Nur Odeh, a journalist based in Ramallah, although there is no active war at present, Netanyahu's legal team continues to attempt to delay the court proceedings by raising security and diplomatic reasons. This tactic has been used repeatedly in the past and has effectively become a tool for temporarily exiting the trial process.

Nur Odeh emphasized that if these court cases do not reach a conclusion, if no verdict is issued, if Netanyahu is not found guilty, he can participate in the October elections. Therefore, he is now once again trying to finish the job.

In some instances, even when court sessions were in progress and Netanyahu was present in court, he was allowed to leave the session after presenting confidential documents to the judges—an action that, according to prosecutors, has caused further delays in the proceedings and has led to their dissatisfaction.

Netanyahu had previously confirmed that he would again run for prime minister in the upcoming elections scheduled for October 2026.

It is worth noting that Benjamin Netanyahu is accused in three cases of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust.

Netanyahu has so far sought to deny all charges. He had previously requested a pardon and even asked Donald Trump to help pressure the president of the occupied territories to grant a pardon without admission of guilt—an effort that did not succeed. Now, it appears that delay has become his primary option.
