Afghanistan’s Shia Ulama Council Condemns Al-Azhar Statement as “Insulting and Cowardly”

Afghanistan’s Supreme Council of Shia Ulama strongly criticized Al-Azhar’s fatwa council in Egypt, denouncing its stance condemning Iran’s legitimate self-defense as “insulting and cowardly,” in a sharply worded statement.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): In a strongly worded message, Afghanistan’s Supreme Council of Shia Ulama condemned the position of Egypt’s General Council of Islamic Fiqh (Al-Azhar) regarding Iran’s just and legitimate defense, calling it “ridiculous and dishonorable.”

In the statement, Ayatollah Dr. Muhammad Hussein Jafarī, head of the council, directly addressed Al-Azhar, asking: “On what verses of the Holy Quran, Islamic higher jurisprudence, scholarly consensus (ijma), or international laws do you base your condemnation of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s legitimate and rightful self-defense?!”

The statement underscored the council’s firm rejection of any religious or legal justification for undermining Iran’s right to defend itself against aggression, emphasizing that such positions betray the principles of Islamic ethics and international law.
