Pakistan Cleric Calls Ban on Shia Unconstitutional, Demands Immediate Review

The leader of Tehreek-e-Jafaria Pakistan, Allama Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, said that the ban imposed on them was based on an unfair “balance policy,” which now has no justification.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The leader of Tehreek-e-Jafaria Pakistan, Allama Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, said that the ban imposed on them was based on an unfair “balance policy,” which now has no justification. He stated that they have never been involved in terrorism, sectarianism, or extremism. Instead, they themselves have been victims of terrorism for many years.

While speaking to journalists, he said that lists of various terrorist organizations are currently being published, and unfortunately, under this unfair balance policy, their name has also been included. He called this action unconstitutional and illegal.

He further said that due to extremism, takfir (declaring others as non-believers), and militancy in the country, hundreds of people from different communities have been killed or injured, and thousands of families have suffered. Despite these conditions, they have always promoted Muslim unity, unity of the Ummah, peace, and respect for the rule of law.

He recalled that they played a key role in establishing and effectively running the Milli Yakjehti Council and the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal. They not only signed unity declarations and codes of conduct but also acted upon them, which helped promote harmony, tolerance, and mutual respect among different sects.

Allama Sajid Naqvi said that despite their continuous efforts for inter-sect unity and maintaining contact with leaders of all schools of thought, linking them with extremists and sectarian elements is not only unjust but also a violation of their basic constitutional and civil rights. He said that including their name in the banned list is an insult to a large community.

He demanded a transparent investigation into the Tralai incident in Islamabad at Masjid and Imambargah Khadija-tul-Kubra, and that all those responsible be brought to justice.

In the end, he urged the authorities to immediately correct these unconstitutional and illegal actions taken under the unfair balance policy, so that the supremacy of the Constitution and law, justice, and public trust can be restored.
