AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Members of the Muslim Manchester United Supporters Club (MUMSC) are preparing to travel to Jordan during the holy month of Ramadan to deliver sports-based humanitarian assistance to Palestinian refugees.
The group is scheduled to visit two major Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan for three days in late February. The program includes friendly football matches, educational sessions for orphaned children, communal iftar meals with families, and the direct distribution of financial aid.
Asif Mahmood, President of the Muslim Manchester United Supporters Club, said the initiative was inspired after organizing a friendly match with Muslim Chelsea supporters, which prompted the group to expand its social engagement. He said, “We have a large platform, and I feel we have a responsibility to do more.”
So far, 17 participants have confirmed their involvement, including not only MUMSC members but also supporters of clubs such as Chelsea and Liverpool. The group has set an initial fundraising target of £100,000 and expects the figure to be exceeded.
The program is being implemented in cooperation with the UK-based charity Action for Humanity, which has an operational presence in Jordan and established links with the camps. For security reasons, the names of the camps have not been publicly disclosed.
Rather than sending material goods, the assistance will be provided in cash. Mahmood explained that the aim is to allow families to decide for themselves how to use the funds with dignity, instead of receiving predetermined aid packages.
A major part of the visit will focus on supporting orphans. Plans include hosting a large iftar for 50 orphaned children and organizing football training sessions led by a UEFA-licensed coach. After the trip, fundraising will continue to cover a full year of living costs for each child, including food, education, and basic needs.
All travel expenses are being paid by the participants themselves. Mahmood noted that conditions in the camps are emotionally challenging, but stressed that football serves as a tool for connection and temporary hope, while the broader objective is to build a sustainable support program for the coming years.
The initiative follows the club’s Ramadan 2025 campaign, during which it provided assistance to 200 families in Lebanon.
