Bangladeshi Mufti: Islamic Governance Would Prevent Corruption and Insecurity in Bangladesh

A Bangladeshi mufti said Islamic governance would curb corruption and insecurity, criticized 54 years of failure, and called for electoral support to establish an Islamic government in today’s Bangladesh.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Mufti Sayed Mohammad Rezaul Karim said corrupt officials, extortionists, and terrorists seek to instill fear of Islam in order to prevent the establishment of Islamic governance, arguing that an Islamic system of rule would block crime and corruption.

Known in Bangladesh as the “Charmonai Pir,” Rezaul Karim made the remarks during an election speech in the Karwan Bazar area of Dhaka, stating that in a country with a Muslim majority, governing affairs based on Islamic principles is a natural course.

Emphasizing historical experience, Rezaul Karim claimed that people lived in peace and security during periods of Islamic governance and said that non-Muslims in the Chormonai region live “in the safest possible manner.”
