AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran has thanked India for voting against a resolution at the United Nations Human Rights Council. Iran’s Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, expressed gratitude to New Delhi for opposing the proposal.

On Friday, India voted against the UN Human Rights Council resolution that condemned Iran’s actions in response to recent anti-government protests. The resolution called for an end to what it described as the Iranian government’s “brutal crackdown” and was adopted by the 47-member council.

Twenty-five members of the council voted in favor of the resolution, while 14 abstained. In addition to India, China, Pakistan, Indonesia, Iraq, Vietnam, and Cuba voted against it.

Iran’s Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, thanked India for its vote against the resolution. India’s opposition to the proposal comes at a time when the United States is preparing to reinstate sanctions related to Iran’s Chabahar Port.

In a post on X, Fathali wrote:

“I express my sincere gratitude to the Government of India for its principled and steadfast support for the Islamic Republic of Iran at the United Nations Human Rights Council, including its opposition to an unjust and politically motivated resolution. This stance reflects India’s commitment to justice, multilateralism, and national sovereignty.”
