Hamas blames Israel for death of Palestinian detainee held without charge

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has condemned the Israeli regime for the death of a young Palestinian detainee, accusing Israeli authorities of responsibility for his deteriorating condition and subsequent death.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has condemned the Israeli regime for the death of a young Palestinian detainee, accusing Israeli authorities of responsibility for his deteriorating condition and subsequent death.

On Monday, Palestinian officials confirmed that 22-year-old Loay Faisal Nasrallah, a resident of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, died at Soroka Medical Center after being transferred there from Negev prison. He had been held without charge under Israel’s administrative detention policy since March 26, 2024.

According to PressTV, in a statement issued via Telegram, Hamas claimed that Nasrallah's death resulted from torture and severe prison conditions, alleging that Palestinian detainees face inhumane treatment and are routinely denied access to essential medical care.

Administrative detention allows Israeli authorities to detain individuals for renewable six-month periods without formal charges or trial. Some Palestinian prisoners have reportedly remained in detention under this system for more than a decade.

Nasrallah’s family stated he had no known medical issues prior to his arrest.

His death brings the number of Palestinian prisoners who have died in Israeli custody since the onset of the war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, to at least 73—including 45 individuals from Gaza and one child—according to Palestinian sources.

The statement described the conditions in Israeli prisons as “catastrophic” and accused Israel of engaging in systematic violations of basic human rights.
