AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, on Tuesday strongly condemned the deadly terrorist attack on the Mar Elias Church in Damascus, describing it as a horrific act that claimed the lives of dozens of innocent Syrian civilians.
In his statement, Baghaei reaffirmed Iran’s firm stance against terrorism in all its forms, regardless of the victims' religion or ethnicity, and reiterated the country’s support for establishing security and stability across Syria. He emphasized that the Islamic Republic unequivocally rejects any form of violence, unrest, or targeted attacks against innocent civilians.
According to Mehr, offering his heartfelt condolences to the Syrian people and the bereaved families, Baghaei also prayed for a swift recovery for those injured in the attack.
The terrorist bombing occurred on Sunday, 22 June 2025, during a religious service at St. Elijah Greek Orthodox Church in Damascus. At least one assailant reportedly opened fire before detonating an explosive device inside the church, resulting in more than 20 fatalities and numerous injuries. Rescue efforts remain ongoing.
