Iran Warns of Retaliation if IAEA Adopts Anti-Tehran Resolution

Iran’s nuclear program has long been a point of contention, especially since the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran has announced that it is prepared to take proportionate countermeasures if the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) adopts a resolution critical of its nuclear program. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that these measures were developed in coordination with the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).

Baghaei criticized a recent IAEA report by Director General Rafael Grossi, which accused Iran of failing to declare nuclear activities at three sites and raised concerns over uranium enrichment levels reaching 60%. He claimed the report was politically motivated and aligned with the interests of the United States and its European allies.

He further argued that Grossi’s statements serve the political agendas of Iran’s adversaries and called on the IAEA to condemn threats from the US and Israel instead of justifying them. Baghaei reiterated that Iran’s nuclear program remains peaceful and compliant with the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Iranian officials have previously warned that politically driven actions by the IAEA could jeopardize Tehran’s cooperation with the agency. Mohammad Eslami, head of the AEOI, also dismissed Grossi’s remarks as lacking technical and legal merit, accusing him of echoing Israeli psychological operations.

Eslami emphasized that Iran is the most-inspected member of the IAEA and that no evidence has ever been found to suggest a deviation from peaceful nuclear activities. He reaffirmed Iran’s rejection of nuclear weapons based on moral and religious principles.

The latest tensions arise amid reports that European countries are pushing for an IAEA resolution that could trigger the reimposition of UN sanctions under the “snapback” mechanism. The IAEA Board of Governors is expected to discuss the matter in its upcoming session.
