AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran has announced that the next round of indirect negotiations with the United States will take place on Sunday in Muscat, the capital of Oman.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed on Monday that consultations have been completed and preparations are underway for the upcoming talks.
Since April, Tehran and Washington have held five rounds of indirect negotiations focusing on Iran’s nuclear program. Three of these discussions were conducted in Muscat, while the remaining two rounds took place in Rome, Italy.
The ongoing negotiations have been marked by shifting US positions, leading Iranian officials to criticize what they described as “contradictory” statements from Washington.
The talks, mediated by Oman, are aimed at finding a replacement for the 2015 nuclear deal, which was disrupted when the United States withdrew in 2018.
Despite the discussions, a key point of contention remains the US demand for Iran to cease uranium enrichment under any new agreement.
Iran has firmly rejected this condition, stating that its right to enrich uranium is guaranteed under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
In its latest report, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) asserted that Iran has significantly increased its stockpile of uranium enriched up to 60 percent, a level close to the roughly 90 percent needed for nuclear weapons.
According to the agency's quarterly assessment, as of May 17, Iran possesses approximately 408.6 kilograms of uranium enriched up to 60 percent, marking a rise of 133.8 kilograms since its previous report in February.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) issued a joint statement last week, denouncing the IAEA report as “political” and biased, claiming it was drafted under European pressure.
