AhlulBayt News Agency: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has condemned the United States for vetoing a UN Security Council resolution that called for an immediate ceasefire and full humanitarian access in Gaza, where Israel has killed more than 54,000 Palestinians over the past 20 months.
Baghaei stated on Thursday that the US veto, which blocked a resolution supported by 14 of the 15 council members, demonstrates Washington’s blatant disregard for global and regional demands to end Israeli atrocities.
“This action also clearly represents the moral decline of American policymakers and constitutes evidence of their complicity in the massacre and infanticide in occupied Palestine,” he declared.
Baghaei also pointed to the US’s long history of preventing the UN Security Council from taking serious action against Israel, recalling that Washington has vetoed more than 50 resolutions aimed at holding the Zionist regime accountable.
“This is undoubtedly one of the main factors in the continuation of Israel’s occupation and colonial genocide, making the US a direct accomplice in the crimes of the Israeli regime,” he added.
The Iranian diplomat further emphasized the responsibility of all governments and international organizations to confront Israel’s war crimes and genocide, urging regional and Muslim states to use their collective capacities to force Israel and its allies to halt the massacre in Gaza and address the growing threat posed by the Zionist entity to regional and global peace.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s military campaign has resulted in the deaths of at least 54,677 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 125,530 others.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Minister of Military Affairs Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its war on the besieged coastal territory.
