AhlulBayt News Agency: Palestinian officials report that Israeli forces have killed at least 219 journalists and media workers since the start of the war in Gaza over 19 months ago.

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate stated on Sunday that Israel is systematically targeting journalists to suppress truthful coverage of its actions. The organization noted that at least 30 female journalists were among those killed, along with one journalist in the occupied West Bank.

According to the Syndicate, Israeli forces have also targeted the families of Palestinian journalists, killing more than 680 of their family members. Additionally, 115 media institutions in Gaza have been destroyed since the beginning of the assault.

On Sunday, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas condemned the latest Israeli attacks on journalists. It described the strikes as deliberate, asserting that Israel continues its persecution of media workers.

At least five more Palestinian journalists were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza. Hamas named them as Aziz al-Hajjar, Nour Qandil, Abdul Rahman al-Abadlah, Khaled Abu Saif, and Ahmed al-Zinati.

The group stated that these journalists and their families were killed when their homes and tents were bombed at dawn. Hamas described the attack as a brutal act of fascism that highlights the severity of the ongoing violence.

Since the start of the Israeli assault on Gaza on October 7, 2023, a total of at least 219 Palestinian journalists have been killed. Many lost their lives along with their families in their homes or while reporting on the ground.

The violence has turned May, the month that marks World Press Freedom Day, into a tragic period for journalists in Gaza.

At least 125 Palestinians, including children, were killed in the latest wave of Israeli strikes on Gaza. The overall death toll from the war has now exceeded 53,300, with over 121,000 people wounded since October 2023.
