AhlulBayt News Agency: A court in Barcelona, Spain, has launched an investigation into the Maersk shipping company over allegations that it supplied arms to the Israeli regime.
Media reports on Monday revealed that the Barcelona court is examining claims that Maersk has transported American-made weapons to Israel over the past six months.
According to the Catalan News Agency (ACN), the pro-Palestinian rights group Prou Complicitat amb Israel (Stop Complicity with Israel) filed a complaint against the Copenhagen-based shipping company.
The group has urged Spanish authorities to identify the captains of two vessels, Nexoe and Detroit, which they allege were involved in delivering arms to Israel.
Maersk's legal representative in Spain, along with the two ship captains, were summoned by the court last Wednesday and were expected to testify on Monday.
Pro-Palestinian activists have long accused Spanish ports of being used to transfer weapons to Israel, raising concerns about indirect involvement in the ongoing conflict.
Spain banned arms sales to Israel following its October 2023 military assault on Gaza, which has been widely condemned as a genocidal war against Palestinians.
Madrid has emerged as one of Europe’s strongest critics of Israel’s military operations, repeatedly denouncing the brutality of the ongoing siege on Gaza, which has claimed nearly 53,000 lives.
