Hamas announces release of US-Israeli captive soldier amid ceasefire efforts

Gaza has been a focal point of regional conflict, with international mediation efforts frequently attempting to broker ceasefires. The latest negotiations involve Hamas and US officials working to secure humanitarian access alongside prisoner releases. The planned ceasefire underscores ongoing diplomatic efforts to ease tensions.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Abu Obeida, spokesman for the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, announced on Monday the group's decision to release US-Israeli captive soldier Eitan Alexander.

Abu Obeida made the announcement in a brief statement on his Telegram channel, confirming the planned release.

According to media sources, a temporary ceasefire is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. local time and will conclude with the release of Eitan Alexander.

On Sunday evening, Khalil al-Hayya, head of Hamas in Gaza and leader of the negotiating delegation, stated that ongoing mediation efforts had led to discussions between Hamas and the US administration over the past few days.

Al-Hayya emphasized that Hamas had responded positively to the negotiations. He confirmed that Israeli soldier Eitan Alexander, who holds dual US-Israeli citizenship, would be released as part of the steps taken to achieve a ceasefire.

The agreement also includes opening Gaza’s crossings and allowing humanitarian aid and relief to reach Palestinian civilians in the besieged territory.
