Israeli minister says Trump’s Gaza deportation plan “remains on the table”

Gaza has endured prolonged conflict, with recent proposals suggesting forced displacement of Palestinians. Netanyahu has openly acknowledged efforts to deter Palestinians from returning by demolishing homes. International legal bodies are investigating Israel for war crimes and genocide.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Israeli energy minister has stated that former US President Donald Trump's plan for the mass deportation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip “remains on the table.”

Speaking to the Israeli public broadcaster KAN on Monday, Eli Cohen emphasized that the so-called “voluntary migration” plan proposed by Trump is still being pursued.

Since February, Trump has repeatedly advocated for taking control of Gaza and resettling its population, with the aim of transforming the area into a tourist attraction. This proposal has been widely rejected by Muslim countries and various governments worldwide, who argue that it constitutes ethnic cleansing.

Cohen indicated that efforts to implement the plan are ongoing, though he did not provide specific details. He also revealed that there are “advanced talks” with two unidentified countries regarding the issue, mentioning that one of them is “Islamic.”

The minister expressed skepticism about any serious reconstruction process for Gaza in the near future, stating that promoting the option of migration has become “a realistic necessity imposed by the current situation.”

On Sunday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted that Israeli forces are deliberately demolishing homes in Gaza to prevent Palestinians from returning and to force their displacement.

Israeli military operations resumed on March 18, following the collapse of a two-month ceasefire agreement with Hamas. The renewed bombardment has killed thousands and left many more injured.

Since October 7, 2023, Israeli military actions have resulted in the deaths of at least 52,862 Palestinians, primarily women and children, with another 119,648 individuals wounded.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Netanyahu and former Israeli minister of military affairs Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its war on the besieged coastal territory.
