Hamas condemns Israeli land registration move in West Bank as annexation attempt

Hamas has condemned Israel’s decision to reactivate land registration in Area C of the West Bank, calling it a step toward annexation. The Movement urged Palestinian factions to escalate resistance efforts. Meanwhile, the Israeli Knesset debated a law allowing settlers to purchase land in Palestinian towns.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Hamas Movement has condemned the Israeli occupation’s decision to reactivate the so-called “land ownership registration process” in Area C of the occupied West Bank, calling it a dangerous escalation and part of a broader project aimed at annexation and forced displacement.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Hamas declared that this move effectively nullifies all agreements signed by the Palestinian Authority with Israel over the years of “futile Oslo negotiations.” The Movement warned of the serious political and national consequences of this unilateral measure, which it sees as a calculated step toward formalizing Israeli control over occupied Palestinian territories.

Hamas asserted that this is not merely an administrative procedure but rather part of a systematic strategy to impose Israeli sovereignty over more than 60% of the West Bank. The Movement criticized the Palestinian Authority for its silence and weakness, accusing it of suppressing meaningful national and grassroots resistance efforts.

The statement also condemned the continued security coordination between the PA and Israel, describing it as a dangerous illusion sustained by a now-defunct Oslo framework. Hamas argued that such policies have given Israel both the time and political cover to entrench its colonial agenda of annexation, settlement expansion, and Judaization.

The Movement renewed its call for all Palestinian factions and components of society to escalate popular and national resistance efforts, increase the cost of occupation, and mobilize both local and international efforts to defend the Palestinian cause amid unprecedented threats.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Israeli Knesset debated a proposed law that would allow settlers to purchase land across the West Bank, including in Palestinian towns and cities.

According to Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, the draft law—titled “Ending Discrimination in Land Purchases in Judea and Samaria”—is designed to facilitate settlement expansion without direct government oversight.

This legislation is part of a broader package of bills being pushed by the ruling coalition to de facto annex large parts of the West Bank, taking advantage of global distraction due to the ongoing war on Gaza.
