Palestinian rights group demands urgent trial for Israeli officials over detention center abuses

Reports of Israeli war crimes against Palestinian detainees have intensified, with calls for urgent international prosecution. Rights groups highlight systematic abuses at detention centers in the occupied territories. The conflict in Gaza continues, with thousands of Palestinian civilians killed and missing.

AhlulBayt News Agency: A Palestinian prisoners' rights group has called for urgent legal action against Israeli officials, citing revelations about systematic violations at the Sde Teiman detention center in the occupied territories.

The Palestine Center for Prisoner Studies stated on Sunday that the testimony of an Israeli soldier, published by Haaretz, serves as a legal and moral indictment against Israel’s military and political leadership. The soldier’s account exposes atrocities committed against Palestinian detainees, most of whom are civilians.

The soldier described the detention center as a “sadistic torture camp” where many Palestinians "entered alive and came out in body bags." He cited the prison commander’s grim characterization of the facility as a “graveyard” where deaths have become routine, and survival is uncertain.

According to the testimony, many wounded prisoners are deprived of medical care, left without food for weeks, and subjected to surgeries without anesthesia while enduring inhumane conditions.

The Palestine Center emphasized the credibility of the report, noting that the testimony comes from an eyewitness and was published in a well-known Israeli newspaper, strengthening its legal and media significance.

It further stated that crimes committed in Sde Teiman have been extensively documented, with the facility earning the notorious label of the "death prison." It noted that detainees have suffered extreme violations, including starvation, rape, and deliberate executions, leading to the deaths of dozens.

The center called on human rights organizations to document the soldier’s testimony as evidence to hold Israeli officials accountable before international courts.

Israel launched its military campaign against Gaza on October 7, 2023, following Hamas’ Operation al-Aqsa Flood, which was carried out in retaliation for decades of Israeli aggression against Palestinians.

The conflict has resulted in more than 52,862 Palestinian deaths, mostly women and children, with over 119,648 others injured. Thousands remain missing, presumed buried under rubble.
