International Quran competition concludes in Kosovo, drawing contestants from across Balkans

Quran memorization and recitation competitions have long played a role in fostering religious education and cultural exchange among Muslim communities worldwide. These events provide opportunities for contestants to deepen their engagement with the Quran.

AhlulBayt News Agency: An international Quran recitation and memorization competition successfully concluded on Sunday in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo. This event marked the third edition of the competition, which is held across Balkan countries and attracts participants from various nations.

Sponsored by Saudi Arabia, the competition featured multiple categories, including full Quran memorization, Tajweed (rules of Quranic pronunciation), and recitation. Competitors showcased their skills and dedication to mastering the Quran, bringing together a diverse group of contestants.

The awards ceremony was attended by prominent religious leaders and officials from across the region. Among them were the Grand Muftis of Kosovo, Albania, and Estonia, as well as numerous religious scholars and representatives from Islamic institutions.

Participants in the event delivered Quranic recitations, further enhancing the spiritual and educational significance of the competition. A documentary was presented to highlight the three-year journey of the program, offering insight into its structure and development.

Speeches by attendees emphasized the importance of such initiatives in encouraging youth to engage with the Quran. They also stressed the role of religious competitions in fostering cross-border cooperation and strengthening cultural ties within the Muslim world.

Officials underscored the value of educational and religious programs in preserving the identity of Muslim communities across the Balkans. The Grand Mufti of Kosovo expressed his support for such competitions, noting their positive impact on faith and unity among Muslims in the region.

A total of 142 male and female contestants from the Balkans and Europe qualified for the finals. They competed in five main categories: full Quran memorization; memorization of 10 parts, five parts, and two parts; and Tajweed recitation of five parts.

The total cost of organizing the competition and related activities exceeded 1.2 million Saudi riyals, equivalent to approximately USD 320,000.
