A senior Iranian military commander says members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) have always supported the Iranian nuclear energy program.
“The Non-Aligned Movement has supported the Islamic Republic during these years that we have been engaged with this [nuclear] issue because every one of them identifies itself with the Islamic Republic and knows that the Western countries may impose similar restrictions on their access to peaceful nuclear energy which is the right of all countries,” Commander of Iran's Basij Force Brigadier General Mohammad-Reza Naqdi told ISNA on Monday.
He added that the 16th NAM summit in Tehran showed that governments have joined nations in the resistance against the US and the Zionist regime.
“This gathering shows that not only nations, but also governments have joined the line of resistance against the US and Zionists and the type of their participation in this summit indicates the emergence of a [special] kind of independence from superpowers ruling the world; this is a great achievement for nations because it paves the way to freedom,” Naqdi noted.
The 16th NAM Summit wrapped up in the Iranian capital on Friday, with the member states passing a final resolution, which included over 700 paragraphs.
The final resolution expressed support for Iran’s nuclear energy program, rejected the United States’ unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic, and called for greater efforts to support the Palestinian cause.
The need to combat Islamophobia and racism throughout the world and promote global nuclear disarmament were some of the other key issues mentioned in the document.
