(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Salim Alam, director of the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign in West London, told IRNA that the Egyptian government has a “long record” of being accomplice to Israeli atrocities against the people of Gaza.
Alam said the “biggest collusion” Egypt had with the Zionist regime was during the 22-day war on Gaza which left thousands of people dead and injured.
He added that Egypt has also closed the Rafah crossing on several occasions to prevent peace activists from transferring humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
The Asian Aid Caravan, the first cargo of humanitarian aid from Asia to Gaza , has recently entered into the strip delivering tons of medicine, food and basic needs to its needy people. However, some 20 Iranian members of the Caravan as well as aid cargos from Iran were refused entry by the Egyptian government.
Alam said Muslim nations expect more from the Egyptian government to “show solidarity with the people of Gaza”.
Referring to Wikileaks revelations, he said the Egyptian government was “informed beforehand of the Israeli attack” on Gaza in the final days of 2008.
Also speaking to IRNA, Kamal Helbawi, the director of the Centre for the Study of Terrorism in London said the people of Gaza “are in dire need of humanitarian aid”.
Helbawi said the refusal of Iranian peace activist in the Asian aid for Gaza by the Egyptian government is “a political move in line of Israeli policies” against the Palestinians.
“Many people from Europe have managed to deliver humanitarian aid to the needy people of Gaza… however, the refusal of the Iranian aid and peace activists by Egypt will only hinder the convoy of aid to the Gazans”.
He said the Egyptian government has in the past proved it is not “prepared to help Muslim brothers” in Palestine.
